- Q. As a manufacture what type of quality control standards do you hold yourself to?
-
A. At Quantum Horticulture we believe that systems make the world go around. We pride ourselves in making high quality, dependable, and safe products. Our manufacturing plant is ISO 9001 certified. Through the stringent practices that are needed to obtain and keep this certification it allows us to produce such high quality products time and time again. No other electronic ballast manufacturer can say the same.
- Q. What certificates does Quantum Horticulture have?
-
A. We pride ourselves in providing high quality, dependable, and safe products. All of our products have one or multiple of the following cULus, CE, ETL and the FCC. All of our ballasts have the lowest EMI output on the market. We utilize proprietary EMI filters on our circuit boards that limits the EMI to less than that of a common mobile phone. You will not need to worry about disturbing your neighbor’s favorite TV show with any of our products.
- Q. What is covered by my 3 year warranty?
-
A. That is easily answered with EVERYTHING (under normal usage). In our near 5 years of selling ballast we have had less than 1% return rates. We stand behind our product 100% with our no hassle return policy 100% of the time. Should you have the unfortunate need to have a ballast warrantied please contact the retailer that you originally purchased it from for a replacement to be sent to you.
- Q. Why does Quantum Horticulture not have a ballasts that provides 110% output as some other brands due?
-
A. To give you a simple answer. We have found that our competitors ballasts that have this function are actually harming the bulbs that they are running and shortening the life span of those bulbs. We have found that also with running a ballast at 110% output increases the ballast temperature greatly and is ultimately shortening the lifespan of the circuit board and the ballast overall.
With these results we have found that it is better at this time for us to not offer this option as we do not want to supply products that will fail and will cause other equipment to fail. We are constantly improving our products and examining new technology. Who knows, maybe we will offer this in the future but rest assured it will not be until we have a quality product to offer you. - Q. What is the purpose for having two cords in the box my ballast came in?
-
A. We have supplied you both a 120v and a 240v cord. We at Quantum Horticulture believe that you should not need to pay more money to run your garden on the voltage that you choose. In other words batteries are not included….but both styles of cords are. Once you decide your voltage plug in the appropriate cord and turn on your ballasts. It is pre-wired to accept anything between 100-268V without any manual changes.
- Q. I noticed that my Quantum Horticulture ballasts actually draw less power than my core and coils, why is that?
-
A. Again, going back to the unstable power grid. Depending on the incoming voltage from the power company this will affect the amount of wattage consumed to ignite your bulbs.
For example; if you are running your ballast on 120v but your power supply is actually 105v it will take more wattage for your core and coil ballast to convert the power to the needed voltage to run the bulb. However, with our ballast utilizing our proprietary voltage regulating technology the circuit board does all of this converting much more efficiently and therefore in most cases uses less power than core and coil ballasts. - Q. Why can I now run more ballasts in my garden than before with my core and coil ballasts without blowing the breaker?
-
A. That is because of our ballasts have the most stable power factor possible. Due to the efficient layout of our circuit boards we have achieved a stable power factor of 99% for 100% of the time. Due to the power factor we actually consume less electricity than most ballasts because there is less resistance and less heat. Therefore you may be able to run more ballasts in your garden than before. You will not find a more stable electronic ballast on the market.
- Q. What kind of testing have “my ballasts” undergone?
-
A. Every ballast that we sell has underwent a series of bench tests and burn-in test at the time of assembly. We test all of our ballasts for frequency output, power factor, wattage output, and voltage output. Every ballast that we produce sits in our burn-in room for 12 hours. We test each dimmer switch 10 times on all outputs. We have inspected the ballast inside and out throughout the entire assembly process.
- Q. What type of research and development has Quantum Horticulture done?
-
A. At our manufacturing plant we have put our ballasts through everything imaginable for an ungodly amount of time. We have tested our ballast from -37°C (-35°F) and up to 65°C (150°F), 0%-99% humidity, drop tested up to 10 meters (33’), flip tested the dimmer switch more than 5000 times, ran them on every possible voltage variation imaginable. If you can think it we have done it. Having done this testing and continuing to do this testing has allowed us to improve our product more than any other manufacturer on the market.
- Q. Why does my Quantum Horticulture ballast have a fuse in it?
-
A. As engineers we know that there are certain aspects of electricity that we cannot control. On all our ballasts we have incorporated a fuse into the incoming line voltage side of the ballast. This is in case there are any surges from the power company, any wiring problems in the greenhouse before it reaches the ballast, and any other unforeseen problems that come from the power grid. If your ballast happens to blow a fuse please note that we have supplied you a spare fuse in the cover of the fuse box, just make sure that you have them on hand in case it happens again. ***Please ensure when changing the fuse you disconnect the power before changing the fuse.***
- Q. Why do my Quantum Horticulture ballasts have fans in them? Should I worry about the fan failing?
-
A. Despite the fact that our circuit boards run cooler than our competitors that was not enough for our engineers. We also designed our ballasts with a sealed stainless steel ball bearing fan in them. This is to help cool the circuit board even further. It is shown that all electronic circuit boards run better and have less problems when they are cool. We have taken the same philosophy with designing our ballast. Just look around you. Every computer in the world has a fan in them. I am sure that you have never worried about your computer’s fan failing before? The fan in our ballasts is covered by our 3 year no hassle warranty.
- Q. Why do my Quantum Horticulture ballasts run so much cooler than other digital ballasts?
-
A. Do to our extensive engineering of our products our engineers have found a way to arrange our circuit boards in a fashion so that they are more efficient and have less resistance than our competitors. Do to the fact that there is less resistance there is less heat. Because there is less heat our products run smoother and have less heat related issues than many of our competitors ballasts do.
- Q. Why is my Quantum Horticulture ballast brighter than my old core and coil ballast?
-
A. Power grids are not stable and the voltage that your ballasts receive is in a state of constant fluctuation. Traditional appliances such as core and coil ballasts can run on different voltages, but the output can change dramatically.
In North America typically we will run one phase of 110v or 2 phases of 110v (220v). However depending where you are on the grid that can actually be one phase of 95v-125v or two phases of 95v-125v (190v-250v). Due to this constant fluctuation you can never depend on your core and coil ballast always producing constant light.
There are some rare special circumstances where core and coil ballasts have the same output as electronic ballasts. However, with the Quantum Horticulture digital ballasts we utilize proprietary technology that compensates for voltage fluctuation giving you a stable output of light 100% of the time.
- Q. Why do my Quantum Horticulture ballasts have a dimming switch?
-
A. This is so that the grower can now have complete control of his/her garden without moving lighting hoods away from the canopy. With this technology you can change the amount of light that your plants are getting with a flip of a switch. As well, you can dim your lights when heat is a factor, you can still give your plants light but significantly reduce the amount of heat produced from the lights. Being mother nature has never been so easy. Another reason is for example when using a 1000w when you load your garden with your new plants instead of having to change the ballast and change the bulb all you have to do is turn the dimming switch to reduce the shock on your plants.
- Q. Why are my Quantum Horticulture ballasts so orange?
-
A. It was the coolest color that we could find in a mountain of aluminum samples from over 200 suppliers.
